Forensic Science uses the scientific methods and techniques for investigations and legal disposition of a criminal or civil matter. The Center for Human Identification specializes in Forensic DNA analysis for human identification by examining biological evidence and determining its source. Bloodstains, semen, and saliva are just a few examples of biological evidence capable of producing a DNA profile. DNA profiles in Forensics have the potential to convict or exonerate an individual.
The Center's concept of processing a case not only focuses on DNA testing, but also ensures the security and integrity of all evidence and documentation under its control. The Forensic Laboratory operates to meet the requirements as set forth by the National DNA Standards and the International Standards Organization.
